He was probably just an unarmed inconvenience who they planted the knife on. It's speculation, but it happens all the time.
After all, it was out of character for the victim to act like this; huh? Or ifn ya want to get someone killed, call the caged gerbil shooters and send 'em to the house of who you don't like, and tell 'em they're suicidal. Legal homicide, huh?
