I've done it with cats. Every cat that lives with me was a stray kitten or an abandoned cat except one, and she just decided to move in from next door; not that she's very domestic. The people who had her fixed had her ear clipped, and she wasn't properly socialised so she's a bit on the wild side, but we're friends.
