I'm surprised they don't eat their crotch droppings the day that they're born. It actually would be kinder than living the way they do.
On the other hand, I just read a little more. They sometimes use their crotch droppings for bait, and I suppose that's better because there's more meat on the critter that wants to eat the crotch dropping as opposed to the crotch dropping itself.
Pragmatism at it's finest.
